Hair transplant is one of the many aesthetic procedures that have been in the limelight for more than two decades now. It has been one of the most popular cosmetic procedures known.
Even now more techniques are being brought to light in terms of hair transplant. Even hair transplant surgeon in Karachi are embracing these new quick methods for hair transplants.
But as new things are discovered and researched, more myths and misconceptions are formed that do more bad than good. Even in the past, these myths about hair transplants stopped people from going to the surgeons or even consulting them and people considered these methods unrealistic and not natural.
But in recent years, techniques have been perfected and new technology is being used for hair restoration with undeniable results. Myths will only stop you from getting the treatment you need. So here I am debunking these myths about hair transplants and the procedures involving them.
Hair Transplants Are Unnatural
There is nothing unnatural about preventing hair loss. The severity of hair loss can vary from individual to individual so doctors always want the outcome to be absolutely subtle and as natural as possible.
Two procedures are used to achieve natural results: FUT or FUE. It is a highly advanced and evolved surgery that requires the utmost precision. Before these procedures, larger grafts were used during the surgery but now these surgeries allow one, two, or three follicles to be transported at a time.
Only Men Can Get Hair Transplants
When I was younger I for sure thought that only men had hair transplants. Because male pattern baldness has been a thing for many decades. But now we know that even women are susceptible to baldness and may need a hair transplant.
Women suffer from excessive hair loss which prompts them to get hair transplant surgery if nothing else works.
No Further Treatment Is Needed
Hair transplants are only responsible for allocating hair to the head. They are definitely not responsible to prevent hair loss or hair fall. Hair fall can only be prevented by medical treatment which might contain creams, gels, shampoos or ointments (topical) or oral medication.
Hair transplants don’t give instant results. Like other aesthetic or cosmetic procedures, the results take time to show themselves. Transplanted hair falls within three weeks of the surgery, but after that roots don’t stop growing. This means blood supply has been established in the area which lasts permanently. Root growth is seen within 60 days with the best results seen during the 9th and 12th months.
No Surgery for Older People
People think that hair transplants cannot be done in people in their 40’s, 50’s, or 60’s. there is no scientific proof for this statement. The hormone that is injected during the transplant only affects the top and front of the head. Age doesn’t matter while doing hair transplants.
Best Results Are Seen in Young Men
It is a common belief that the younger the individual, the more successful the hair transplant and better the results. If hair fall starts at a younger age, chances are you will need more sessions to overcome the loss. It is better to start oral medication in the early stages and surgery in the later stage.
Someone Else’s Hair is Transplanted On Your Head
I have to admit that even I used to think that hair transplants require a donor. It was much later that I discovered that hair comes from the patient’s body itself. Like in any other transplant, foreign hair would be rejected by the body making the surgery unsuccessful. Only hairs from the patient’s body or scalp can be used in the surgery. The hair taken from the areas of the body, grow back fully as before.
Results Aren’t Effective and Long-Lasting
Since after a week of surgery transplanted hairs fall out, people think that this will happen again and the procedure was not successful. Most results are seen after almost 12 weeks of the surgery. The hairs grow back stronger, with about ½ inch growth each month. The most growth is seen after 6 to 9 months. And these results are permanent and last a lifetime. Rarely does anyone would experience hair loss in the transplanted area.
If you experience rapid hair loss, it is better to treat the underlying cause for it to prevent future hair loss. Determine the best possible solution for your hair loss.
